TRE – Trauma Realease Exercises

with Beata Torkildsen

Severe life events may leave its mark on the body as deep tensions. Usually we notice the tensions as back pain, migraines, neck pain or other problems – but we do not always know where they come from. A Course in TRE; Trauma Releasing Exercises, will help you heal trauma and stress through physical movements.

You can heal your trauma

Tensions are the result of the instinct that make humans, like other living organisms,  to contract when something scary or painful is experienced.
An experience that has left its mark in the muscles also affects the psyche so that situations similar to the difficult event are hard to handle. Body memories are activated and we experience a “flashback” but there is no real danger. If the tension remains unresolved, we are going to search for similar situations to try to close the event, and get rid of tension in the body.

Trust the body’s own wisdom for healing – learn the basic method

Fortunately, the body has not only a protective instinct for contracting muscles, but also a way to release tension! In connection with the shock or trauma, it is natural for us to shake – and this is the body’s natural way of restoring a better state of being. This is basic method we work with during this course. It’s called TRE, Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises, a simple but effective method to get free from tensions by shaking them off.

How does it work

With TRE, you can dissolve stress and traumatic anxiety and get access to safety, new resources, joy and energy.  TRE is a series of simple physical exercises that activates the nervous system’s natural function for stress regulation. The theoretical part gives participants an understanding of stress, anxiety and trauma from Somatic Experiencing Trauma Healing. The theory behind and the principles of TRE are also taught. In the practical part you will be guided through the exercises in a safe and effective way. The exercises are very effective without the risk of re-victimization.

Frontfigures of TRE

Trauma Releasing Exercises and Somatic Expriencing are new methods based on knowledge of how the body and nervous system reacts to trauma. Some prominent figures of the new approaches are; Peter Levine, Bessel van der Kolk, Onno van der Hart and Robert Scaer.
