Yoga Cikitsa – the heart of healing

with Kausthub Desikachar

2 – 6 May 2012

One of the most valuable contributions of yoga is in the field of healing. For centuries people have benefited from this timeless discipline, to heal themselves and others from many kinds of diseases – be it physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Yoga has its own unique way of understanding the human body in multiple dimensions, their inter-connectivity, the reasons for illness and has a unique self-empowering way to heal them.

Yoga philosophy believes that the resources needed to counter illness are already within each individual, so the goal is to recognize and bring them forth. Thus, the student takes an active role in the healing process, rather than passively receiving treatment. Yoga has many subtle tools that teach us to deal with the body, and heal with the mind, through empowering our core – the heart.

T Krishnamacharaya (1888-1989), worked untiringly towards the revival of the great healing tradition of yoga. Combining his great wisdom and experience he helped countless people and opened the field of yoga therapy to the scientific community. His healing hands have not only given life to many sick people, but have provided the opportunity to

integrate yoga into modern day healing. His son TKV Desikachar, and grandson Dr. Kausthub Desikachar, continue this work into the modern day, through the Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation.
