Ängsbacka Extended Community

Over the years many people have come to Ängsbacka to enjoy a temporary community through courses, festivals, short and long-term volunteering. Among these however, there have been a growing number of people that simply didn’t want to leave, that built a life and home in and around Molkom and become a part of what is generally referred to as “The Extended Community”.

About the community

Not everyone knows that when you come to Ängsbacka you also enter an already existing community of individuals that live in and around Molkom, that have their own permanent community connected to the town with the Ängsbacka at their heart.

This larger and more permanent community is currently comprised of roughly 150 people, young and old, families and singles, permanent and temporary citizens of the greater community of Molkom. Ängsbacka  functions as their shared community hub outside the festival season where some visit and participate regularly while others drop by as feels natural to them. To support a growing number of families Backa Förskola and Backa Friskola have been initiated and built in Molkom, based on the same spirit of self-development, love and togetherness as Ängsbacka itself.

Alone but not lonely

With head and heart

Some community members work permanently and closely with Ängsbacka and/or the school, while others have work in the surrounding cities or are self-employed and working from home. There is a great variety of talents, tools and skills among us, and many have lived amazing lives before ending up in Molkom. From “regular Joe’s” to “hippies”, you can find healers, yoga teachers, massage therapists, musicians, consultants and much more.

Anyone in the community can offer their services and workshops through the weekly activities program at Ängsbacka that runs throughout the year. There are also mini-festivals and yearly celebrations where everyone is invited. Whenever the café is open it becomes a central gathering place where the community can come to tap into the shared collective. Opening hours of our café will be presented on our website.

Even though Ängsbacka in most cases is the common thread that weaved theses people’s lives together, they all have a unique story of why they ended up in Molkom, how they see their connection to the course center and why they choose to stay in this small, quiet Swedish town.     Element key Jam

    The Element Key is a playful and immersive co-creation experience where music, movement, voice, and poetry come together through structured improvisation. Using five simple hand signs, Earth (repeat), Water (follow), Air (flow), Fire (solo), and Space (silence & observe), participants create spontaneous performances together in real time.

    Each round is guided by an “Avatar” who shapes the direction of the jam while the group supports and responds creatively. Everyone gets the chance to step into leadership and expression.

    No experience is needed — only curiosity, presence, and a willingness to play. Every session becomes a unique living composition shaped by the people, energy, and magic of the moment.
