The Forest Village: Growing a New Way of Living

In the forest surrounding Ängsbacka, a long-held vision is beginning to take shape.

The Ängsbacka Forest Village is an evolving project exploring how we can create ecological housing that brings us closer to nature, while becoming a place for learning, inspiration and collaboration.

The first steps are already underway. A number of small ecological houses will be created in the forest, each exploring different materials, techniques and approaches to sustainable building. Natural and reused materials, circularity, energy efficiency, smart use of water, permaculture and eco-design are all part of the exploration.

But Forest Village is about much more than building houses.
An important part of the vision is to make the building process itself a place of learning. Together with ecological builders and educators, volunteers, schools and other collaborators, we want to explore hands-on approaches to ecological construction and share what we learn along the way. The ambition is to document methods and experiences so that knowledge developed here can inspire and be applied elsewhere.

The project also reaches beyond Ängsbacka. By building relationships with local businesses, suppliers, schools, farmers, the Molkom community and regional and international networks, Forest Village can become a meeting point for people interested in more sustainable and nature-connected ways of living.

Ultimately, the vision is to create something that is not only sustainable, but also beautiful, inspiring and alive. A place where ecological living supports our wellbeing, our relationship with each other and our relationship with the natural world.

This is a journey from dream to village, and it is only just beginning.
In the video below, we invite you into the forest to discover the vision behind Forest Village and some of the first steps towards bringing it to life.
